Kay Bojesen Drummer

In their ceremonial red uniform and bearskin hats, the Danish Royal Guardsmen have held guard at Denmark’s palaces since the 17th century and have now become a familiar symbol of the nation. Kay Bojesen’s hand painted beechwood guardsmen were originally created in 1942 and soon became collectors’ pieces with admirers across the globe. Beautifully crafted and gift packaged, the Drummer makes a superb gift which is sure to be treasured by children and adults alike.

Kay Bojesen's intention was never to create exact replicas of wildlife, but rather to produce animals whose designs reflected a child's view of animals. His creations, designed between 1930s-50s, were to be based on simple, beautiful shapes, tactile materials and should inspire imaginative play. Thus his charming menajerie of solid, tactile designs took shape. Fulfilling Bojesen's dream, his playful collection of animals and figurines, now produced by the respected Danish Rosendahl Group, have become treasured classics the world over.
